Life’s Too Short to Not Be Chic

The Evolution of Style
What History Can Teach Us About Getting Dressed Today

I’ll admit it: I’m a bit of a museum nerd.
I can spend hours wandering through exhibits, flipping through books on textiles, art, fashion history, and old costume archives—just trying to understand how style has evolved over time.
And it often makes me pause and ask:
Why do we wear what we wear?
And more importantly…
What are we saying without even realizing it?

Style is More Than Fabric
Style has always been about identity. Even before women had a voice in politics or society, they had clothing. And that clothing spoke—sometimes softly, sometimes boldly. It’s fascinating to see how what we wear reflects what we value in the moment—freedom, femininity, confidence, and structure.
  • “Style is how we speak without words.”

  • Draped fabrics = freedom + softness

  • “Form without force” — clothes should follow the body, not fight it.

What This Means for My Closet
Do my clothes move with me—or hold me in?
Am I choosing pieces because they feel like me, or because they’re simply what’s available?
When I get dressed with history in mind, I don’t feel pressure to follow trends. I feel inspired to make more intentional choices—ones that connect to who I am and how I want to move through the world.
